Two soldiers from the Indonesian Army’s 133/Yudha Sakti Infantry Battalion Task Force on duty guarding the border areas in Papua were attacked by the Papuan Terrorist Separatist Group (KSTP) in Bousah Village, South Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, Southwest Papua, during Christmas celebrations, Monday, December 25, 2023.

TNI Chief Brigadier General Nugraha Gumilar said that as a result of this attack, one TNI soldier, Corporal Second Class Hendrianto was killed and another soldier, Private First Class Frangky Gulo is in critical condition.

“The incident that desecrated Christmas was carried out by the OPM (Free Papua Organization) wing led by Manfred Fatem,” Nugraha said in a written statement received, Tuesday (12/26/2023).

It is estimated that the attack was carried out by separatist groups in sudden manner in the direction of Bousha Post at 14:00 Eastern Indonesia Time from a distance of about 100 meters.

Nugraha said, the latest condition, the critical victim is still under the care of Teminabuan Hospital to undergo further treatment.

“Meanwhile, the deceased is being buried,” he said. 

Communication Constraints

According to information, currently in the Bousha area of South Aifat District the weather is rainy and cloudy, which meant that mobility and communication are currently limited, due to the absence of internet signals and mobile phones.

“The details of the incident are still under investigation,” said the Head of the Information Centre.
