Jakarta. The Corruption Eradication Commission, or KPK, on Friday named former Papua Governor Barnabas Suebu a suspect for alleged graft in the completion of the Sentani Lake and Paniai Lake hydropower project in the country’s easternmost province in 2008.

“This is a development related to a previous case in which he was involved, but at a different location,” KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha said in Jakarta on Friday, as cited by news portal Liputan6.com.

Together with Barnabas, the KPK also named Lamusu Didi, president director of Konsultasi Pembangunan Irian Jaya, the government’s private-sector partner in the project.

KPK prosecutors allege that the two suspects are responsible for state losses worth Rp 9 billion ($700,000).

Last August, the antigraft body also named Barnabas and Lamusi suspects in marking up the budget of the Memberamo River hydropower project in 2009-10. The KPK also named Jannes Johan Karubaba, head of the province’s energy agency, in this case.

The three are suspected to have siphoned Rp 36 billion from the project’s budget of Rp 56 billion for personal enrichment.
